The Ambassador’s Visit to the Puerto Vallarta Consular Agency Remarks for Certificate Presentation
I am aware that you provide a wide range of services to U.S. citizens. However, your ability to provide this high volume of service while also providing individual attention and compassion is commendable.
For example, I know that during the last fiscal year the Consular Agency assisted numerous victims of domestic violence return to the U.S. using government financial assistance. These cases required assisting the victims in relocating to a safe house, obtaining basic necessities (clothes and food), communicating with family, completing paperwork, and arranging transportation back to the U.S. I also recall when, in February, you provided an array of services to the 24 Carnival Cruise Line passengers who were assaulted while on a tour in El Nogalito. You arranged for translators to take police reports, handled stolen passport issues, and even arranged for re-entry and onward travel of undocumented U.S. citizen passengers. The incident made national news in the U.S.
As the only U.S. Government presence in the greater Puerto Vallarta/Riviera Nayarit area, we rely on you, Kelly, and your staff to assist any USG official travelling in the area. I know that most recently, you assisted the U.S. Secret Service with the visit of the Vice President’s family members. And before that, during the 2011 Pan American Games, you assisted multiple Diplomatic Security agents protecting American athletes and conducted outreach with the tourism industry in preparation of the arrival of spectator tourists.
I am pleased to have this opportunity to visit the Consular Agency and to meet all of you. It is also a privilege for me to be able to thank you in person for your dedication in providing such outstanding service to our citizens.
